A low-growing cactus up to 10 cm across with a brownish stem and reddish flowers. It requires a deep container for its taproot, well-draining soil, good ventilation, and a sunny position. Keep dry in Autumn and Winter, and protect from extreme heat in Summer. It can tolerate occasional frost if dry.
