Native to Namibia, this caudiciform plant grows a thick stem up to 1 metre across and over 2 metres in height. Its large blue-green leaves are deciduous, and the flowers are very small. It has attractive red-purple fruit which are poisonous. Extremely drought tolerant, it nevertheless appreciates regular watering in Summer, and should be kept dry in Winter. It prefers a sunny position but should be given some protection in extreme heat.
