The famous giant Saguaro cactus – a branching, columnar cactus native to the deserts of Arizona. It is extremely slow-growing and long-lived, perhaps reaching a height of 2 metres after 50 years, and becoming fully mature at 12-15 metres after 120 years. It prefers a sunny position in well-draining soil, and is more tolerant of frost if kept dry during cold weather. Water with care, allowing it to dry out in between waterings.
