Also known as the Red Ponytail Palm, this hardy tree from Guatemala makes a lovely specimen in any garden. It is frost and dry tolerant, with a swollen base in which it stores water. It can grow to 10 metres in height and the base can reach 4 metres across. It is smaller if kept in a container, reaching a height of perhaps 2 metres. It's leaves are red when new and turn green with maturity.
