This large and diverse group of plants are found growing naturally from Arabia to South Africa, to Madagascar and the Canary Islands.  They range in form from small clumping rosettes to large trees over 8 metres in height.  They produce flowers every year that are extremely attractive to native honeyeaters.

Aloes like a position in the full sun, in a climate with hot Summers.  They need a well-draining soil.  Most prefer to be watered reasonably regularly in Summer, as the soil dries out, and be kept dry in Winter.  However, some species come from regions with dry Summers and wet Winters, and they should be watered accordingly.

Aloes have wonderful architectural form, attractive candelabra-like red or yellow flowers, and are hardy and drought-tolerant.  They make a superb addition to any garden.
